SAT Essay grading criteria?

Hi,

I've heard the SAT graders don't grade you down for:

-Not finishing your essay (I mean like if you are mid sentence not if you only have like two paragraphs lol)

– I also heard that they don't mark you down if your facts are incorrect?

Is this true? I heard these things from several peers and English teachers (including AP teachers)

Does anyone have a source/ reference of the exact things they do not base your score on?

Thanks

Both of those are correct – SAT essay graders are looking for specific things, such as a well-stated thesis, some kind of introduction and conclusion, a well-organized essay, evidence to back up your thesis, and proper grammar, sentence structure, and spelling. That's it.

Hope this helps!

How to Prepare for the GRE (Graduate Record Exam) | FireHow.

The GRE (graduate record exam) is not an easy test to crack on a whim; rather it takes time to prepare for if an average score is in mind.

What you need to do first is really schedule a date to take the GRE. However, remember you need to give yourself time. We’re not talking about a couple of weeks, rather a couple of months. Four weeks is alright, but eight will be better as you will be able to process everything better.

Okay, once you have an appointment, you need to get to work on the studying. Get some review books from your local library, check online resources, and if possible take a GRE class. You can’t just cram this at once; you have to take your time so you can process all the information. So spread everything and organize your time for each part that you need to study.

The only way you’re going to score well on this exam is if you practice, practice and practice. Take practice exams often to evaluate yourself so you can truly know where you stand. If you keep studying without testing yourself you really won’t know if you’re studying correctly or not. If it turns out that you’re not studying correctly shown by low scores, don’t worry, change your routine, try different methods, get different books, different website and get to work. Never give up or think this is just too much because you’re working towards a better future.

If you can get a group of people who are studying for the GRE together and help each other out that would be awesome. Studying with someone else will be great as you will all be able to help each other out.

Finally, always remember why you are doing this and what you expect out it. GRE’s mean entrance into graduate school, so visualize yourself after you have been accepted and you’ll realize how important what you’re doing is. Think positive, be prepared on test day and you will do great.

I’ve never done any PSAT or SAT prep course before, but I have taken the PSAT twice. first score was 176, second was 181.

So should I take any SAT prep course at all? TestTakers is doing a program at my school, and it’s slightly over 1k. has anyone heard of it and can tell me if it’s worth the money? what about the Princeton Review course? how much is that one in comparison to TestTakers?
Thanks in advance. :D

The GRE is an illogical exam.?

gettingthrugmat The GRE is an illogical exam.?I am signed up to take a GRE prep course in March. I am in favor of the standardized test like the SAT and such but I really don’t agree with the weight that the GRE holds when applying for graduate school. Think about it. most go to college and major in ONE thing. For me, I was a Public Relations major. I was required to take only 3 hours worth of math. Yet, I have to do an entire section of math on the GRE and it isn’t all basic math either. Plus, the vocabulary section is crap. it asks you for definitions of words that are not commonly used. Seriously, the meanings of some of those words are outdated and NOBODY uses them in the form that is being asked. If we have to take the exam, fine, but schools shouldn’t put the bulk of their decision on the score. They need to look at all factors like GPA, etc.it all needs to be balanced equally. I was good enough to get into college and graduate but the GRE is trying make us prove we are good enough to keep going? what do you guys think?

Are Your SAT Scores Up to Par? | Top Colleges Blog

Every student who plans to attend college wants to be sure to do well on the SATs. yet, ironically, most students have no idea what scores are considered “good” and which aren’t considered to be so good. unfortunately, there is not one easy answer when determining what scores are good.
Are Your SAT Scores Up to Par? | Top Colleges Blog
When it comes down to it, determining if your SAT scores are “good” or not depends upon the college you wish to attend. obviously, the more selective colleges will require applicants to have a higher SAT score than those that are less selective. A few examples of schools and the range of the scores earned by the middle 50% of students who were admitted include:

· Auburn (Main Campus) – critical reading – 520-620; mathematics – 550-650; writing – 520 – 620
· Carleton – critical reading – 670-750; mathematics – 660-740; writing – 640-740
· Duke – critical reading – 690-770; mathematics – 690-790; writing – 680-780
· Harvard – critical reading – 690-800; mathematics – 700-790; writing – 690-780
· MIT – critical reading – 660-760; mathematics – 720-800; writing – 660-750
· Middlebury – critical reading – 630-740; mathematics – 640-740; writing – 630-740
· Stanford – critical reading – 660-760; mathematics – 680-780; writing – 670-770
· UCLA – critical reading – 570-680; mathematics – 610-720; writing – 580-690

Since many colleges make their SAT information public, the more selective schools need to be sure to accept those applicants with the highest scores. This way, their published average SAT can look impressive to those who might be interested in attending the school.

While it may not seem fair for so much emphasis to be placed on SAT scores, the reality is that it is a simple form of measurement that leaves no room for interpretation. in other words, it is far easier to separate the more advanced students based on SAT scores than it is to separate them based upon the types of extracurricular grades they earn or even the grades they receive since some schools are offer a more challenging curriculum than others.

When trying to determine whether or not your SAT scores are “good,” it is helpful to gain a better understanding of the structure of the test. there are three parts to the SAT: Mathematics, Critical Reading and Writing. You can earn a score ranging anywhere from 200 to 800 on each of these sections. therefore, the best possible score you could earn on the test is a score of 2400. With the average score for each section being about 500, an average total score would be about 1500.

It is important to note that very few students receive a perfect SAT score, even when looking at those students who are attending the top colleges in the country.

Was beaten- 620 Q(47) V(28) – Need HELP to score 100 more! : GMAT

1272363619 Was beaten 620 Q(47) V(28) Need HELP to score 100 more! : GMATThis is my second attempt and scored just 620, which is highly devasatating. My break down was Q(47) V(28). First attempt was 550 Q(43) V( 25).

Have not seen much improvement in Verbal. I was expecting above 700. Wondering and trying to figure out where i went wrong and whats my actual weakness in each section

Study Strategy followed:

Quans:
OG12 and OG 11 Probs
Manhattan Books for basics
GMAT Prep 175 collected questions

Verbal:
SC –
Manhattan SC Guide
OG 12 Probs
GMAT Prep 175
Spidey Notes
Psahil Notes
Adam/Jones – Bob – collection ( only first half)

CR -
CR Bible
OG 12/ 10 Probs
LSAT Sample Papers – around 300 Questions

RC -
Manhattan RC Guide
OG 12 Passages

MGMAT Tests – around 680 to 710
GMAT Prep 1 – 620
GMAT Prep 2 – 680
GMAT Prep 1 ( after Reset) – 710
GMAT Prep 2 ( after Reset) – 760

One thing i felt i was lagging was, after all SC or CR questions, i was not confident enough on the answers.

Regarding each section wise,
CR was my strength. since my accuracy was around 80 to 90 % during practice. But in GMAT Prep or Actual Test, I was not so confident on CR
SC was kinda night mare always for me. But was able to catch up during practice. But again was not very confident in GMAT Prep
RC was around 90% in GMAT Prep Tests. so its kinda OK though its not my strong area

Quans – I am not so strong in Geometry and Probability. other than that, everything was kinda ok. May be need to do more practice on Data Sufficieny. Comparatively, DS is my weak area

Already i have taken my 2 attempts and really bothered/ scared (to be frank) to go for my third attempt. Because no of attempts would also matters. so in my next attempt, which i am gonna start to prepare, I really wish to crack with a pretty decent score – 720 +. so basically need 100 + more points.

Any thoughts or suggestions or advice or strategy in this regard is really helpful, since no clue where i am going wrong and what more to refer. any help is hightly appreciated
