anyone taken kaplan's free gre prep class? | Top GRE Scores
kaplan offers a free GRE Prep class, 3 hours long. is it worthwhile? or will i be sitting through an ad for kaplan test prep when i could be studying? it says they do a sample test.
Not sure about the free class. I’ve paid for 20 hours of tutoring (2500). it includes going to as many of the classroom courses as you want + 1 to 1 tutoring.
Let me begin by saying that I was a skeptic of Kaplan. I requested information on what average score improvements were–although they wouldn’t give them to me. However, let the numbers speak: I took their diagnostic exam and got a 1020, close to my GRE score: 1060. After 1.5 months of studying, tutoring and classes, I raised it to a 1300 (660 v, 640 q). now, this is of course the score I got on their CAT tests, but just compare that to the other test that I took (1020). That’s a 280 point improvement! Before, I wasn’t even able to get into the school of my choice, now I qualify for fellowships.
You can probably get a similar score if you 1) buy 2 Kaplan books. 2) Work 10 hours per week, doing the lessons, learning and USING the Kaplan methods 3) Memorize vocab. I memorized 900 of the “most frequently used GRE” words and brought my verbal score up 200 points. Do this for about 1 month and you’ll see a difference. The only thing Kaplan did for me was primarily motivate me and give me confidence. everyone berates Kaplan because they say they don’t improve. if you do the work and put in the time, it will work. Even if you’re a total dolt, you will still see an improvement (especially if you memorize vocab).
Just wanted to share my story. good luck.
